The registrations of new automobiles increased by almost 10 pc in Q1 this year, against a year ago, to 9,679 units, while in March they dropped by 6 pc year-on-year, to 3,793 units, Mediafax reports. In March, however, the total number of new vehicle registrations advanced by 8 pc against the same month of 2010, according to data released by the Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registrations Department (DRPCIV). The higher number of vehicles registered in March was fueled by an advance by almost 140 pc in the number of new commercial vehicles registered for the first time in Romania. On the other hand, DRPCIV statistics show that the registrations of used vehicles declined by 11 pc in Q1 this year, to 31,439 units, with a 60 pc collapse in March alone, to 5,196 units. In the same month of 2011, the registration of new mopeds and motorcycles dropped by 24 pc, or 119 units, from March 2010. Dacia leads the top of manufacturers, with 880 units registered in March, 5 pc up from last year, followed by Skoda and Volkswagen, with 490 units (up 35.5 pc) and 449 units (down 6 pc) respectively.
