Raids target drug traffickers in Bucharest, Galati

25 raids have taken place yesterday in Bucharest and Galati, targeting an international drug trafficking ring. The traffickers were buying drugs from Spain, France and China.

24 persons were taken at the Police for hearings, while the investigators seized almost 6 kilos of drugs, around RON 200,000 and EUR 25,000 and several guns.

The drugs were arriving through courier services and the ordered quantity was not surpassing 12-14 kilograms in order not to raise suspicions.
Prosecutors claim that the members of the ring brought to Romania and sold high risk drugs from July 2010 to March 2011 by using companies that sold ethno-botanical products. Moreover, the criminal activity continued although the said companies were repeatedly sanctioned and, following successive controls, their representatives were notified that the products they sold contained psychotropic drugs.
Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors have started to prosecute 20 persons and 13 companies for being part of an organized crime group and for international drug trafficking.

The investigations were conducted with the help of anti-drug police officers from Bucharest.
