Two-month-old baby beaten and bit by own mom

A 2-month-old baby got into hospital in serious condition having been beaten and bit by her own mother, while in the Barlad Maternal Centre, where the two were being lodged given the social problems the mother is facing.

According to officials with the Vaslui General Dept. for Social Assistance and Child protection (DGASPC), it was the Maternal Centre security guard that reported the mother’s abuse of her child, having heard loud crying from the room occupied by the 19-year-old mother and her baby daughter. Mediafax quoted the DGASPC Vaslui spokesperson as saying that the guard noticed bruises and bite traces on the baby’s body. The baby being in serious condition prompted her transfer to the “Sfanta Maria” Children’s Hospital in Iasi, where she is expected to undergo treatment for at least one week. The mother returned from Italy early in the year to give birth in Romania.
