Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana, suspendedfrom the Social-Democrat Party(PSD), argues, in an interview for RadioRomania Actualitati, that his relationwith PSD is at present a neutral, formal, one. “Our relations are neutral, that is,neither too close, nor tensed (…). Thismeans I continue to do my job in theSenate. (…) I believe the second incommand could play a more importantpart in the activity of the opposition,”Geoana stated. “You cannot consider aproject which managed to win five millionvotes is exhausted,” he added. When asked about a potential project ofthe Social Liberal Union (USL), MirceaGeoana replied that, as far as he knew, the Union would present, in the nearfuture, a project for economic recovery“as the basis of the future government ofthis alliance.”

Moving on to another topic, the Speakerof the Upper House criticized theGovernment’s intention to take responsibilityin Parliament on the teachers’wages law, arguing that PM Boc thusopened the way to “civil disobedience”.“No matter what we say, there is no wayaround it when the high court issued adecision on it. (…) What the BocGovernment is doing now opens theway to political, legislative and economicinstability,” Geoana argued. (I. C.)
