First League: FC Timisoara is the new leader

Otelul Galati lost the leader position in the ranking after losing a game away on Wednesday night, score 1-0, to Steaua. Maicon (25’) managed the only goal. Before the game with Otelul, Steaua was aware that only a victory could allow it to hope to one of the top positions in the First League hierarchy. Sorin Cartu’s boys understood this point and the hosts were largely in control during a game in which the Galati players were not at their best. In turn, FC Timisoara ended the game home with Pandurii Tg Jiu in a tie: 2-2. Zicu tied the game in minute 90, so that Timisoara remains the only team which hasn’t lost any match in this championship. The battle for the top position is on its last legs, and the teams in the first two positions will be faced with difficult challenges in the next stage: Otelul will meet Dinamo at home on Saturday, while Timisoara meets Rapid Bucuresti, on Sunday, away.
