French, German FMs say Romania and Bulgaria not ready for Schengen

Romania and Bulgaria are not yet ready to join the Schengen area, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe and his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle said at a NATO meeting in Berlin yesterday, according to Novinite. Bucharest and Sofia have met all technical requirements to join the border-free zone, according to rapporteur Carlo Coelho. The European Parliament will hold a vote on the two countries’ accession on June 4, followed by a decisive vote in the Home Affairs and Justice Council on June 9-10.
