Bucharest has to return EUR 75 M to European Commission

Romania will have to return, to the European Commission (EC), EUR 74.9 M, funds allotted to our country for agriculture and spent inappropriately, Financiarul reports. Problems in the use of the funds include “irregularities as  regards cross compliance controls, providing inaccurate information to  farmers and ineffective controls in the field as regards the payment of aid per  surface,” according to an EC release. The European authorities recovered,  from the member states, for similar irregularities, EUR 530 M. The largest  amounts are to be returned by Greece (EUR 260 M) and Romania. The  Commission’s decision is also related to rural development measures per surface.
