Euro area annual inflation was 2.7 per cent in March 2011, up from 2.4 per cent in February, Eurostat informs. A year earlier the rate was 1.6 per cent. Monthly inflation was 1.4 per cent in March 2011. European Union (EU) annual inflation was 3.1 per cent in March 2011, up from 2.9 per cent in February. A year earlier the rate was 2.0 per cent. Monthly inflation was 1.1 per cent in March 2011. In March 2011, the highest annual rates were bserved in Romania (8.0 per cent), Estonia (5.1 per cent), Bulgaria and Hungary (both 4.6 per cent), and the lowest rates were noticed in Ireland (1.2 per cent), Sweden (1.4 per cent) and the Czech Republic (1.9 per cent). Compared with February 2011, annual inflation rose in eighteen Member States, remained stable in five and fell in four. The lowest 12-month averages up to March 2011 were registered in Ireland (-0.8 per cent), Latvia (0.7 per cent) and the Netherlands (1.3 per cent), and the highest in Romania (6.8 per cent), Greece (5.0 percent) and Hungary (4.3 per cent).
