Several truckers unhappy with traffic stops stage roadblock protest

Several truck drivers blocked county road 308 for tens of minutes Saturday, between Lanurile and Baraganu, Constanta County, unhappy
about the frequent traffic stops by officials with the Constanta County Roads and Bridges Autonomous Authority (RAJDP). According to the Constanta Traffic Police Dept., RAJDP Constanta organized Saturday a truck weight control operation, with more than 25 lorries being stopped for a relevant  control. Mediafax reports that, at some point in time, a few drivers moved their vehicles onto the opposite side of the road, disgruntled at the long  time they had to wait in line, thus completely obstructing the road. The traffic police who arrived at the scene removed the roadblock and issued several fines. According to, the incident had an alleged political undertone, with Nicusor Constantinescu, Chairman of the Constanta County Council, saying institutions coordinated by the Democratic Liberal Party compelled freight companies to carry stones to Baraganu. Constanta Prefect Claudiu Iorga Palaz denied the accusation, saying the rivers had been under no obligation to transport stones for purported electorally minded road-paving.
