“Village pubs are packed, people won’t work”

In the same interview to Mediafax, Minister Tabara said it’s an anomaly to see “people starve” in a country that has so much farming potential, but argued that in the countryside, people refuse to work and prefer to spend their days drinking in pubs.

Village pubs are packed from “early in the morning till late at night,” but if “you want to hire somebody to work in your garden for RON 100 a day plus meals, you cannot find anybody,” Tabara said.

His comments echoed those made by President Basescu on Sunday, when he said that Romanians don’t work enough and have “limited performances.” “Unfortunately, I would say that in Romania, people work the least and I support the president’s point of view,” Tabara said.
