Final vote on stray dogs’ law after Easter

The Chamber of Deputies postponed until after Easter the final vote on a draft law that would allow local authorities to kill stray dogs. The draft law passed in the Senate and received green light in the Chamber of Deputies’ Administration Committee. Animal rights activists and NGOs yesterday staged a new protest at the Parliament Palace against the draft law initiated by the prefect of Bucharest. Under the new law, sick and aggressive dogs will be put to sleep, while the others will be held in shelters. The final decision on their fate belongs to local councils.
