Romania obtained a brilliant overall result at the European Karate Kyokushin Championship that recently ended in Vilnius, Lithuania, winning six medals (one gold, one silver and four bronze medals), Agerpres informs.
After a difficult but spectacular performance, Marius Ilas (CSU – GYM Oradea) managed to win the European middleweight title (-80 kg). This was the fourth time the Romanian fighter managed to do so in a championship in which fighters from 25 countries participated.
In her turn, Viviana Chirila (CSU – GYM Oradea) became a European runner-up in the seniors’ +65 kg category. Last year she finished on 3rd place at the same championship.
Sergiu Druhora (CS Vidalis Zalau) likewise managed to live up to last year’s performance, finishing on 3rd place in the -70 kg category.
Romania also won three bronze medals in the juniors’ competition – two won by Madalina Cupsa (CS Kanku Baia Mare) in the -55 kg category’s kata and kumite events and one won by Codrin Mardar (CSC Felix) in the -65 kg category’s kumite event.
Likewise, Dorin Margarint (CS Budokai Arad) finished on 5th place in the +90 kg category. Cristian Boldut (CS Vidalis Zalau) finished on 5th place in the seniors’ competition’s kata event. Bogdan Berinde (Kanku Baia Mare) and Viviana Chirila (CSU – GYM Oradea) finished on 9th place in the seniors’ competition’s kata event.
Romania’s delegation in Vilnius also included international referees Grigore Petrut, Radu Singeorgzan, Sorin Stoica, Vlad Pop and kumite team head coach Harris Wallmen.
