One in four Romanian hotels should be closed

Over 500 hotels, meaning one in four hotels in Romania, should be closed over ‘terrible’ comfort standards, Paul Marasoiu, head of the General Tourism Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) said in a press conference yesterday, quoted by Mediafax. 1,225 controls targeted the Romanian seaside this year, which resulted in 597 sanctions and 147 fines worth over RON 1.4 M in total. The largest fine, amounting to RON 50,000, was ordered over the failure to observe classification criteria. Three operation licenses were suspended and 80 classification certificates were withdrawn. The ministry official assured that tourist fees on the seaside will not go up this year. On the contrary, due to special offers, they will even decrease by 3-5 pc.
