Queen Elizabeth II turns 85

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II marked her 85th birthday on Thursday by attending the traditional Maundy Service at Westminster Abbey – where the royal wedding will be held next Friday. The televised service is seen as something of a dress rehearsal – at least for the media – for the nuptials on April 29 between Kate Middleton and Prince William, the queen’s grandson. The queen is due to mark 60 years on the throne in June next year. She will celebrate her “official” birthday with a large military parade in mid-June.
