BCR grants Martifer EUR 23 M to develop wind energy project

Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) signed a EUR 23 M-funding agreement with the multinational industrial group Martifer to develop a 42 MW-wind energy project in South-Eastern Romania, a press release informs. The deal marks a turning point for BCR, placing the bank in the first line in the funding of the renewable energy sector in Romania.

According to a study commissioned by Erste Group and released in February 2009, Romania’s wind energy potential is the highest in South-Eastern Europe, being estimated at an installed capacity of 14,000 MW, the equivalent of a total production of 23 TWh. Specialized studies point to Moldavia and Dobrogea as the most adequate regions for the implementation of wind energy parks, and South-Eastern Dobrogea, in particular, ranks second in Europe, as regards the wind energy potential.
