MP wants adult advisory system for print media

Lower Chamber MP Mircea Giurgiu has announced that he will come up with a draft law that will introduce a rating system for articles with sexual or violent contents published in print or online. The system will be similar to the one used in television in order to protect minors. “It’s a system similar to the one used in television where the situation is regulated through National Audio-visual Council (CNA) norms.

The situation has gone out of control in the print media. Children that read newspapers in print or online have to be somehow protected from seeing indecent or shocking pictures that are available without hindrance,” Mircea Giurgiu stated for Realitatea TV. The MP added that newspapers, tabloids in particular, and their websites are full of indecent pictures and of articles that have explicit sexual contents. “Adults should show responsibility because these newspapers end up in children’s hands too,” Giurgiu added.
