The earnings of some of the Romanian lawmakers are a mere trifle compared to their wives’. According to Realitatea TV, which cites blogulparlamentarului.ro, the overall amount brought home by the wives of Romanian parliamentarians comes down to over 22.4 M RON, or close to EUR 5 M. Among the wives that “bring home the bacon”, as the saying goes, fashion model Valentina Pelinel, whose yearly earnings were sevenfold higher than those of her husband, Democrat-Liberal Deputy Cristian Boureanu.
According to her wealth statement Nov. 2010, her income totalled RON 35,612, EUR 80,000S, the bulk of which was made from copyrights or fashion shows. In the Crin Antonescu – Adina Valean family too, it is the wife who rakes in more money, EUR 138,000-plus from her MP salary and allowances, and consultancy fees, much more than her Senator husband, who took in RON 63,578, or EUR 15,000. Ioana, wife of Romania’s former premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu, has a rather hefty income of her own, RON 413,130, EUR 100,000, from notary earnings.
