Gazprom’s net profit rises 24 pc

Gazprom, the world’s largest producer of natural gas, posted a 24% rise in full-year net profit in 2010, on Thursday, as both prices and volumes recovered from the financial crisis and recession in 2009, Wall Street Journal informs. Company’s officials said net income for the year totaled 968.56 billion rubles (USD 35.12 billion), compared with 779.59 billion rubles in 2009. Net profit for the fourth quarter stood at 314.86 billion rubles, above the 298.81 billion rubles forecast by analysts. Gazprom’s sales rose 20% to 3.597 trillion rubles compared with 2.991 trillion rubles a year earlier, helped by higher prices at home and in Europe, despite lower export European volumes.
