League I: FC Vaslui not giving up fight for title

The fight for the League I title is heating up as the season draws to a close. FC Timisoara and Otelul Galati, the two main contenders, face a redoubtable opponent after FC Vaslui climbed on second place following its win against Universitatea Craiova on Wednesday, score 2-1. FC Vaslui totals 54 points, being in a tie with Otelul. FC Timisoara topped the League I rankings with 56 points on Thursday after winning its away game against U Cluj, score 2-1. Otelul Galati played against Gaz Metan Medias after the closing of this edition.

Laurentiu Reghecampf, head coach of Universitatea Craiova, a team that is now in the relegation zone, accused the refereeing, but FC Vaslui President Adrian Porumboiu labeled the accusation as groundless.

“One of our players was sent off in the 42nd minute so in the second half we were forced to play exclusively defensively. The result is not fair, we deserved at least a point and Vaslui didn’t deserve to win. The refereeing went against us,” Reghecampf stated.

“Craiova is complaining for naught. There wasn’t a single debatable piece, but they can say anything and that’s natural since they lost. They spent most of the time feigning faults and now they accuse the refereeing,” Porumboiu stated. The club owner is already thinking about winning the title: “We don’t have to hide it anymore, we badly want to win the title, but there’s a long way to go until the end of the season.”

In Cluj, Alexa put FC Timisoara ahead in the 22nd minute. The half-time break found the visitors two goals ahead after Ignjatijevic scored in the final moments of the first half. Claudiu Niculescu put U Cluj back into the game in the 75th minute. The former Dinamo player received a pass from Cojocnean and slipped the ball below Taborda. Final score: U Cluj 1 – FC Timisoara 2.

In the former title holders’ derby, CFR Cluj won its away game against Unirea Urziceni, score 3-1.

Dinamo Bucharest (4th in the rankings) played against Gloria Bistrita yesterday afternoon, final score 3-0. The game was played in an empty stadium as a consequence of the incidents that took place in the Steaua vs. Dinamo derby last leg.
