As Metrorex has threatened to terminate the contract with Alstom, officials of the French company say they can see no reason for such a move, and they are willing to negotiate. “It is possible to bring down costs by modifying some maintenance parameters, but train manufacturer AFER, Alstom and Metrorex should agree to make some changes. The price of the contract per kilometer has remained unchanged since the contract was signed in 2004. Modifying maintenance plans might cut 12 pc of the contract value,” Alstom Romania manager Gabriel Stanciu explained for Jurnalul National. The company officials added that Metrorex must pay Alstom a debt of EUR 40 M (penalties exclusive) representing overdue sums in the maintenance contract, dating back from 2009-2010.
