Police head encourages use of guns

Romanian Police (IGPR) head Liviu Popa told a press conference on Monday that he encourages policemen to use their guns because ‘that is a form of firmness the Police needs’, adding that ‘the gun is not meant for knitting’. Popa made the statements after police officers had fired their guns in a Bistrita neighbourhood in a pursuit of a suspect they failed to apprehend during the weekend. The police head said the objective of the members of the force was up to one per cent of the citizens of the country and that it was a shame that the rest of the public had to suffer because of such a low percentage of population keeping the Police busy.
