Eight homes destroyed in Ramnicu Valcea fire

A devastating fire started on the night of Monday to Tuesday in Ramnicu Valcea. Eight wooden shacks were completely burnt in the city’s Colonia Nuci neighborhood. Firefighters fought the fire for approximately four hours, trying to rescue some of the people’s belongings. Their actions were hindered because fire hydrants malfunctioned, the fire engines having to fill up with water from a chemical plant located 4 kilometers away. “There were around seven households. There were no victims. There is little room for maneuver in this area. We managed to stop the fire from spreading to the other residential centres. There were fire hydrants but they were unusable,” Captain Catalin Popescu, spokesperson of Valcea County Emergency Situation Inspectorate, stated. The fire most likely started from a cigarette. Firefighters will assess the damages and establish who is at fault.
