Senators adopted, yesterday, a bill proposing to reduce the income tax from 16 to 13 pc, for wages and pensions, Mediafax reports. The Government did not back the adoption of the bill, and the Budget Committee opposed it, in its report. Nevertheless, senators rejected, in the assembly, the unfavourable report drawn up by the financial committee, and the bill is to be debated in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decisional chamber. Employees and those who collect pensions above RON 740 pay, at present, a 16 pc-income tax. On the same occasion, MPs adopted a bill to modify the way the car tax is calculated, a bill initiated by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) deputy Robert Negoita. The deputy called, by this bill, that the value of the car be taken as the tax base, after the Finance Ministry has drawn up a catalogue setting up the estimated value of the vehicle based on brand, model, engine (and, possibly, additional options).
