50 Romanians, members of Catalonia copper-theft network, arrested

Fifty Romanian citizens were arrested by the Barcelona police, suspected of being members in the largest copper-theft network Catalonia has been confronted with to date, “El Pais” reports, quoted by Mediafax. The network is charged with operations in Barcelona, Lleida, Girona and mainly in the Catalan area of the Pyrenees. According to the police, the network members would not only steal copper from various sites, including trains, phone boots, elevators or other types of installations, but also had the necessary infrastructure to treat and melt the metal, in order to re-sell it.
