New Hungarian party files registration documents in court

The temporary president of the Transylvania Hungarian People’s Party (PPMT), Toro T. Tibor, yesterday filed documents for the party’s registration with the Bucharest City Court, according to Mediafax. He explained that the new party is aimed at “filling a whole” in the representation of the Hungarian community, a whole that was not filled by the other two political Hungarian structures, the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) and the Magyar Civic Party (PCM).

Toro T. Tibor said his party managed to gather almost 30,000 signatures in its support from 18 counties and Bucharest residents. He added that PPMT will represent the interests of Transylvanians and the Hungarian community, it will have a centre-right doctrine and aims at being a modern European people’s party. One of the main objectives of the new party will be the various forms of autonomy of the Hungarian community, the leader also said. He added that MEP Laszlo Tokes will not be part of the leadership, but he is the mentor of the new structure. Commenting on the move, UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor said the creation of a Hungarian people’s party was a wrong decision from a historical point of view. (A. C.)
