Incidents during consecration of Bucharest church

The hundreds of people who came, yesterday, to attend the consecration of the Vatra Luminoasa church, in Bucharest’s Sector 2, jostled to enter the church and tried to push through the protection fences to get into the seat of prayer during the consecration service performed by the Patriarch Daniel. The reason for the jostle appears to be the fact yesterday was the only day people were allowed to go through the altar.

During the commotion, a woman was taken ill, while another fell to the ground, pushed by the people trying to tear down the protection fences to make their way into the church.

The gendarmes present managed to put up again the fence, and a medical team provided medical assistance to the woman taken ill.

The “Vatra Luminoasa” parish was founded in 2003, and its cornerstone was laid in 2004. The parish is involved in several social programs and an education centre, for children aged 8 to 14, is operating in its vicinity.
