Police protest tomorrow

The National Trade Union of Police Officers and Contract Staff is set to picket the Palace of the Parliament tomorrow, trying to convince the MPs to vote against the Interior Ministry layoff bill. Both union members and their families will participate in the protest. ‘The intention with this protest is to raise MPs awareness and convince them to vote against the draft law.

The normative act to go through the final voting on Tuesday, May 10 regulates massive layoffs in the Interior Ministry and the termination of a number of legally-awarded wrights to laid off staff’, states a union press release. In addition, the National Trade Union of Police Officers and Contract Staff warns that the considerable cut of the actual number of police officers will endanger the quality of public order in Romania and will impair the Schengen Area accession process.
