Fencing: Romania wins bronze in Rio de Janeiro

After winning gold at the World Championships in Paris last year, the Romanian women’s sabre team (Ana Maria Branza, Simona Alexandru, Anca Maroiu and Loredana Iorda­chioiu) won bronze at the World Cup competition in Rio de Janeiro at the end of last week, Agerpres informs. Romania defeated France in the game counting for bronze, score 44-28. Simona Alexandru was second in the individual event, being defeated by Germany’s Imke Duplitzer in the final, score 15-14. The sabre competition in Rio de Janeiro was the first competition counting for a place at the Olympic Games in London.
