ASTRA Asigurari: Subscriptions to health insurances up 50 pc in Q1

The total volume of gross subscribed premiums (GSP) in both life and non-life categories registered by insurance company ASTRA Asigurari in March 2011 amounted to RON 334,743,583, of which RON 331,958,501 for general insurance policies, up 1.49 pc from March last year, reads a press release. ASTRA Asigurari subscribed RON 225,239,776 in car insurances (67 pc of its portfolio), including RON 178,811,188 as compulsory car insurance (RCA) policies (53 pc of the portfolio) and RON 46,416,980 as third-party liability policies (CASCO). Important increases were registered by the buildings and goods insurance segment, with GSP worth 90,468,267, accounting for a 43 pc increase over the first quarter of 2010. The company also maintained its leading position in the market of maritime and aviation insurances. The volume of health insurance premiums soared by 50 pc in Q1 this year, against the similar quarter of 2010, from RON 709,016 to RON 1,066,264. In the first three months of this year, ASTRA Asigurari paid RCA compensations worth RON 105,271,480 (28,395 claims), up 87 pc from a year ago (RON 56,288,215, in 14,221 claims). The compensations paid to CASCO policies during January-March 2011 amounted to RON 54,703,532 (14,240 claims), equivalent to a 50 pc increase from RON 36,446,877 (7,986 claims) a year ago.
