Deva Mayor, expelled from PNL, joined UNPR

The Deva mayor, Mircia Muntean, who was expelled from the National Liberal Party (PNL), joined the National Union for Romanian Progress (UNPR), yesterday. “I chose to join UNPR as they are earnest politicians and they put the people’s interests first, as do I,” Mircia Muntean stated, according to a UNPR release.

Muntean stated that he had never made a secret of his acquaintance with the minister Gabriel Oprea (e.n. the executive president of UNPR), a man that he “trusts whole-heartedly”. Mircia Muntean is at his fourth consecutive term as mayor of Deva, an office he first acceded to 1996. He was expelled from PNL owing to the conflict which broke out after Muntean lost the election for PNL Hunedoara’s presidency, to Mircea Molot.
