Foreigners issued study permit may apply for a work permit

The Senate yesterday passed a draft law which allows the foreigners that have a study permit in Romania to extend their stay and apply for a work permit, without seeking a long stay visa. In this case, foreigners must sign a full-time work contract in the activity field covered by their studies. According to its description, the draft law aims at adapting the Romanian legislation to the provision of the European visa code, which is mandatory and directly applicable the moment when Romania will enforce the Schengen acquis. The draft act will be put on debate by the Chamber of Deputies, which has the final say in this case.
