A number of 4,999 new cars were registered in April, up 31.8 pc from the previous month, but 43.6 pc down from the same month of 2010, with Dacia keeping its position of best sold brand, according to data released by the Driving License and Vehicle Registration Department (DRPCIV), Mediafax reports. New car registrations reached 8,875 units in April 2010, but dropped to 3,793 units in March this year. Dacia was the best sold brand, with 1,072 units registered in April, down 70.3 pc year-on-year, followed by Volkswagen with 737 units (up 21.6 pc), Skoda with 475 units (down 26.9 pc), and Renault with 461 units (down 27.1 pc). According to DRPCIV, at the opposite end were automobile brands with just a few units registered in April, such as Jaguar with two cars, and Bentley, Ferrari, Dodge, Daewoo, Lada and Smart with one unit each. DRPCIV figures indicate a decline by 68.4 pc of the used vehicles market, from 12,518 units in April 2010 to 3,955 units last month. The total number of new vehicles registered in Romania reached 6,803 units, accounting for a 34.3 drop from April 2010.
