Oradea Court of Appeal asks to hear Omar Hayssam through videoconferencing

The Court of Appeal of Oradea yesterday asked the Ministry of Justice to take the legal steps to have Omar Hayssam heard through videoconferencing. ‘The court has summoned defendant Omar Hayssam through diplomatic channels and has asked the Ministry of Justice to do the due diligence in order for the court to be able to hear the defendant through videoconferencing,’ said the representatives of the Oradea court. The Oradea Court of Appeal has postponed hearings in the case of the Syrian who is on trial for terrorism after his lawyer had submitted a document to show that his client had been in a Syrian prison since January 9, 2008, serving a four-year hard labour sentence. The next court date in the trial of Omar Hayssam fleeing is October 17. Omar Hayssam fled Romania in the summer of 2006, having been released from prison based on medical considerations.
