Cluj will host, between June 16 and 19, the fifth edition of the International Romani Art Festival (IRAF). Having earned international recognition as one of the most representative cultural events of its kind, with an unique structure, merging tradition with the latest forms of Roma artistic expression, the festival will bring together over 100 artists and artisans from 11 countries, in a rich programme, including concerts, dance performances, film screenings, photography exhibitions, book launches, pyrotechnics and modern circus shows, an artisans’ fair, activities for children, informative events, workshops and debates and activities taking place within a penitentiary space. The first day, June 16, is allotted to a concert by one of the most explosive live Balkan bands, Dubioza Kolektiv.
With a strong message and overtly political lyrics, DK has been a guest of most major European festivals in the past seven years. The celebrated Taraf de Haïdouks from Clejani, counting actor Johnny Depp among its devoted fans, is the first band the organizers confirmed in this year’s line-up. Scheduled to appear on Friday, June 17, the 12 artists promise a genuine, sensational, show, which has enthralled spectators, on all the world’s major stages, but which they live to the fullest only when at home. At the same time, the organizers announced the latest addition to the line-up – the famous Hungarian band “Mitsoura”, to concert on June 18. “It is too good a project not to be brought before the people in Cluj.
