Government to debate heating subsidy in the coming weeks

The ministries of Finance, Administration, and Labour will present to the government, in the coming weeks, proposals regarding the subsidies granted to population for thermal energy, as authorities want to terminate the current system of subsidies provided to everybody, regardless of personal income, sources with the Executive announced Wednesday, quoted by Mediafax. According to government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean, the issue of heating subsidies was discussed during Wednesday’s meeting of the Cabinet. In the latest talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government promised it will eliminate the heating subsidy in the near future – a move that might boost the price paid by population for heating and hot water by 60 pc until the end of the year, depending on the local administrations’ resources to cover the difference from own sources.
