Transport Min calls for verification of predecessor’s auctions

The Transport Minister, Anca Boagiu, called on the judiciary to look into situations reported during the term of her predecessor, Radu Berceanu, when bribes could amount to as much as 2 pc of the value of contracts, Cristina Traila, the head of the National Regulatory and Monitoring Authority for Public Acquisitions (ANRMAP) and a member of the Democratic Liberal Party, stated, for “Romania Libera”.

“When a mayor takes over in office, he can easily expose his predecessor’s missteps. However, he usually doesn’t: one hand washes the other, this is what has been happening for 20 years now,” the latter underlined. According to the ANRMAP official, the most striking irregularities in the organizing of auctions are reported in hospitals, which have access to funds of dozens of million euros. The highest fine was dealt, again, to a hospital, the “Alexandru Obregia” hospital in Bucharest, but ANRMAP has merely 16 inspectors to keep watch on a market on which 13,000 public institutions are organizing auctions for contracts amounting to a total EUR 19 bln.
