Norway and Romania – historical friendship consolidated by close cooperation

Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

“On the occasion of the Constitution Day, we would like to address a warm message of congratulations to the Kingdom of Norway and to the Norwegian people.

Norway and Romania enjoy a historical friendship consolidated by a close cooperation on the European and international arena. Over more than nine decades of diplomatic relations, Romania and Norway have shared a long tradition of friendship and warm relations.

Romania and Norway promote common positions on the most important global dossiers and act together as reliable partners and allies within the framework of UN, NATO and other international fora, with a view to promoting peace, security and stability in Europe’s neighborhood and worldwide.

Norway’s financial assistance for cohesion represents an important instrument for enhancing bilateral relations, extremely relevant to us in achieving our objective to reach the real economic convergence with the EU average.
At the economic level, although bilateral trade has registered a moderate decrease due to the global economic and financial crisis, there is still a tremendous potential for increasing our economic and trade cooperation.

Romania encourages a more substantial approach of our economic and trade actors, aiming at increasing bilateral trade, as well as the level of mutual sectorial investments.

At the same time, Romania is delighted by the fruitful academic and cultural contacts, as we celebrated 20 years since the creation of the Norwegian Lectorate at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj, and 10 years since the foundation of the Scandinavic Department, at the same University.

The 400 graduates, so far, proved an unquestionable mutual interest for the common values and civilization of both countries.

We look forward to continuing our work together to strengthen the friendship between our two countries.
On this joyous occasion, we would like to convey the best wishes of happiness, good health and prosperity to our Norwegian friends.

Once again, warm and sincere congratulations to the Kingdom of Norway and to the Norwegian people!
Gratulerer med Nasjonaldagen Norge!”
