Oprescu: The Capital’s development plan to take UPG shape

Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu yesterday said that the strategy setting joint development principles for Romania’s capital city of Bucharest will take the form of an Urban General Plan (UGP) so that it could be passed in 2012 by the Bucharest Municipality General Council (CGMB). The mayor, who attended a meeting of the expert group working on the “Strategic Concept Bucharest 2035”, said expert views differ, and red tape hurdles make the process even more difficult. The “Strategic Concept Bucharest 2035” sets out to outline a development model for the Capital that takes into account the city’s influence area as well. The project has in view harmonizing the main factors leading to the city’s development towards some joint development principles being established, leading to an area both harmonious and competitive involving general and local community development.
