The National Police and Contractual Staff Trade Union (SNPPC) organizes, today, in Bucharest, a protest meeting, calling on MPs to vote against the bill for staff cuts in the Interior Ministry (MAI). The protest was, initially, announced for last week, but adjourned because PM Boc was away on campaign. The public protest opposes the Bill for measures to align MAI to the budget approved for 2011. Summed up, the document, initiated by MAI, stipulates the sacking of over 9,500 police officers, gendarmes and fire fighters, according to the aforementioned source.
Furthermore, another measure decided this year annulled the main rights granted, by law, to employees from the national security and public order system made redundant. According to trade unionists, the bill, which is to receive the final vote in Parliament on Tuesday, “is to regulate massive staff cuts in MAI, as well as the annulment of several rights that are granted, by law, to those made redundant”.
