According to the National Bank of Romania, the number of active cards has dropped by 619,815 units to a total of 10.58 million units in Q1, with that being the lowest level since the one reported in March 2008. The valid cards portfolio consisted of 12.52 million units at the end of March, having dropped by 258,546 units compared to the end of Q1 last year and by 60,379 units compared to the end of 2010. Debit cards had a positive evolution in Q1, both compared to the end of 2010 and to the same period last year, while the credit cards portfolio dropped significantly. On the other hand, the valid credit cards portfolio dropped by 181,348 units compared to December 2010 and by 311,235 units compared to March 2010.
