Mircea Horia Simionescu, one of the best-known names in Romanian contemporary literature, passed away yesterday morning, in Bucharest, at 83, according to Mediafax. Alongside Radu Petrescu and Costache Olareanu, Mircea Horia Simionescu was a representative of the so-called “Targoviste Group”, which paved the way to Romanian postmodernism. His last published book is the ample collection of poems “Versete de unica folosinta” (Disposable Verses, 2010). In 1998, he was the recipient of the Opera Omnia award, of the Romanian Writers’ Guild.
