President loses suit against journalist

President Traian Basescu lost his legal suit against journalist Cristi Oprea over a 2008 article published by daily ‘Cotidianul.’ According to Antena 3, the president has to pay Oprea RON 1,166 in trial expenses, under a ruling given by the Bucharest District 1 Judge Hall.

The president had initially demanded RON 100 from the journalist as compensation for an article in which the head of state was accused of having brokered a deal between the Democrat Liberals and the Greater Romania Party to allow the latter party’s leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor to retain the position of deputy Senate speaker.
