ArcelorMittal metal workers threaten to go on strike again

ArcelorMittal metal workers are getting ready to go on strike again. The ‘Solidaritatea’ National Metal Workers’ Union in Romania (SNSMR) filed a letter to the leadership of the plant, reiterating its demand to negotiate the collective labour contract for 2011-2012, ‘Jurnalul National’ informs. The demands concern not only salary hikes but also a series of other rights that have to do with labor conditions, bonuses for extra hours, for leave and for holidays. “If our demands are not met next week (this week – editor’s note) then on May 30 at 7 AM we will go on unlimited strike,” SNSMR Vice President Mititelu stated. ArcelorMittal decided to scrap Furnaces number 1 and 2, the Linz Donowitz Steelworks 2 and 3, Foundry number 3, three rolling mills and the coke plant.
