Wages granted to public sector employees by court to be paid in instalments

The public sector employees who sued the state will be granted higher wages, but only as of next year. According to Realitatea.net, the Government is drafting an ordinance which would allow the state to pay, in instalments, along three years, the wages granted by court rulings. In the best case scenario, the beneficiaries will receive a third of the amount, on a yearly basis, between 2012 and 2014. The state has to pay nearly RON 8 bln to the beneficiaries, representing the wages granted to the public sector employees by courts. In the first four months of 2011, the amount rose by RON 530 M. The Government claims it cannot afford to pay this amount, as it represents 1.5 pc of GDP, arguing the Romanian state has, at present, clearly-defined commitments with the European Commission and the IMF.
