Two dead, one injured in ambulance accident

Two others killed in separate road crashes.

Two patients that were being taken by ambulance to a dialysis center in Drobeta Turnu Severin died when the vehicle hit the concrete guardrail of a bridge. A third patient and the ambulance driver were severely injured, Realitatea.net informs.

The accident happened Wednesday on DN 56A road, in the Mehedinti County, in unclear conditions that are being investigated now. “We received an emergency call reporting an accident. Two ambulances responded and found two dead, one severely injured and one with light injuries,” said Dumbravita Florescu, of the Mehedinti Ambulance Department.

The vehicle involved in the crash belongs to ‘Renamed’ company and was taking three patients to a private clinic, for dialysis. Both rear seat passengers – a man and a woman, Maria Chiata and Dumitru Darna from the Patulele commune – died on the spot, while the front seat passenger Leonora Hasan of Burila Mica and driver Petre Mitaru (51) were taken to hospital in Drobeta Turnu Severin, with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by the driver, who was speeding. He will be probed on charges of manslaughter and causing accidental bodily harm.

In a different accident, a woman aged 23 died Wednesday when she was hit by a truck on a pedestrian crossing in Arad, Mediafax informs.

The accident occurred on a high traffic road, in a commercial area of the town. According to witnesses, the driver of a truck did not stop at the crossing and mortally injured the young woman. As the driver ran away after the accident, witnesses called Police and an ambulance, but the woman was already dead. “The driver is a Bulgarian citizen who mortally wounded a young woman on the pedestrian crossing. The man left the accident site, but he was found shortly after that on a nearby street,” said Ovidiu Liber, spokesman for the Arad Police Department.

A third accident in Constanta County claimed the life of a man (51) who was going to pray at his son’s grave. The victim did not give the right of way upon entering National Road 22C, and his car was hit by a van, Realitatea.net informs. Witnesses say the impact was so strong that the careless driver was pushed through the front window, under the wheels of his own vehicle. The man died on the spot.

“The Audi was going from Medgidia to Constanta and collided with a van at the crossroads with the Pasajului Street,” policeman Dlorin Olteanu said. The other driver escaped with light injuries.
