Painter Ion Salisteanu died Wednesday, at the age of 81, and will be laid to rest Friday at the Bellu Cemetery of Bucharest, announces the Romanian Academy, whose member he was. The funeral will take place at noon, on the Academicians’ Alley, Mediafax informs. Salisteanu made over 4,000 paintings grouped into theme cycles, with a particular interest for medieval and Byzantine art, for tradition and modernity. In time, he evolved towards an abstract style of painting, with a special preference for ordering natural shapes. Many of his paintings made their way to collections and museums from Romania and abroad.
