Raw materials will raise varnish and paint prices by up to 10 pc

DEUTEK, one of the main players on the paint and varnish market, estimates a 5-10 pc price increase of these product categories, following the general 35 pc price hike of raw materials during the last two years. In a press release, DEUTEK also warns that the amount of raw materials allotted to the Romanian market is insufficient to meet producers’ demands, and some materials are sold at twice the prices of 2006-2008. This has a major impact, because imported raw materials account for more than 95 pc of paint prices. In its turn, DEUTEK will up its prices as of July 1st, following another 5 pc price hike on April 1st, against the background of a 20 pc market decline at five months. For 2011, the company estimates the market will drop – in terms of value and volume – by 10 pc (optimistic scenario) to 20 pc (pessimistic), down to a level similar to 2008, if economy and the construction market return on increase after 2014. For 2011, DEUTEK targets a turnover increase of 5 pc at least, driven by a higher market share in Romania and stronger exports to countries like Moldova and Ukraine.
