Several email accounts received a surprising message from a @antena3.ro address, announcing president Traian Basescu had been killed in an accident.
Antena 3 claims it was the victim of a cyber attack and denies it had anything to do with the message. “A cyber attack is affecting email accounts in Romania. The subject of the email is so shocking that it tempts the receiver to click on a link, thus downloading an executable virus, which is harmful for the computer. To add more credibility to the information, those who initiated the attack used the name of the news television Antena 3 in the sender field, more explicitly, the address “email@example.com, a non-existing address”, as Antena 3 points out.
“We hereby state Antena 3 had nothing to do with this cyber attack and we warn you against accessing the link, to protect your computer from a harmful virus,” representatives of the television further stated.
