The latest poll conducted by Avantgarde, between May 1 and 20, 2011, and quoted by Realitatea.net, indicates the Romanians’ voting preferences and the level of popularity of the main potential candidates for the president and PM position. Thus, in the parliamentary vote category, the Social Liberal Union (USL) would get 61 pc of votes, followed by the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL), with 17 pc, the People’s Party – 8 pc, the Greater Romania Party (PRM) – 5 pc and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania – 4 pc. In the presidential race, Crin Antonescu remains the favourite, with 41 pc, followed by Victor Ponta, with 21 pc, Dan Diaconescu, with 13 pc, and Corneliu Vadim Tudor – 7 pc.
As regards preferences for the prime-minister position, the top positions swap. Victor Ponta ranks first, with 34 pc, followed by Crin Antonescu, with 19 pc, Mugur Isarescu – 15 pc and Dan Diaconescu – 10 pc. The poll has a 2 pc-error margin and was conducted, on a self-funded basis, on a probabilistic, stratified, sample of 2,400 people, using the direct interviews method.
