Olaroiu has reached an agreement with Mircea Sandu and is ready to coach Romania in its tournament in South America, a tournament the national team will start following its EURO 2012 qualifiers game against Bosnia, ‘Pro Sport’ informs. Things are becoming clearer in what concerns Razvan Lucescu’s replacement. The paper says Cosmin Olaruiu has an agreement with Mircea Sandu and can break the agreement he has with Al-Ain.
In Romanian Football Federation (FRF) circles Olaroiu’s name is mentioned increasingly loud and more and more often. The head coach that has gained the aura of a savior in recent weeks already has an agreement with the head of the FRF and is waiting for the result of the game against Bosnia and for the end of the championship in the United Arab Emirates. Al-Ain, a team with which Olaroiu has already signed a pre-contract, is close to relegation, the final two games of the season leaving it little room for hope. Al-Jazira, already champion, and Al-Shabab (5th place) are the two teams Al-Ain should win points from in order to avoid relegation. Thus, the team that wants to be coached by Cosmin Olaroiu is facing a difficult mission. Moreover, according to sources from the head coach’s entourage, Olaroiu’s pre-contract includes a clause that allows it to be canceled in case he receives an offer from the national team. If things go according to plan, the 41-year-old head coach will be on Romania’s coaching bench during its games against Brazil and Paraguay. If Olaroiu starts coaching the national team then Gino Iorgulescu, a good friend of both Mircea Sandu and Olaroiu, will enter FRF structures where he will most likely replace Ionut Lupescu.
If the Olaroiu option fails then Mircea Sandu is left with limited options. In case Romania wins on Friday, Razvan Lucescu could remain at the team’s helm against the backdrop of general euphoria. If it does not then Hagi could be an option worthy of consideration, especially since he is among the few head coaches that have clearly expressed their willingness to take over the national team and that are not afraid of rebuilding it.
